AMO Says the Fault Lies With the Consumers--Not With Complete

Well, American Medical Optics' president and CEO, James Mazzo has finally taken the same path that Bausch & Lomb has in defending ReNu with MoistureLoc. Associated Press reported Mr. Mazzo as stating that the problem with Complete® MoisturePlus is not his company's problem. Instead, he has chosen to blame the consumer and, if some Chicago researchers are to be believed, it is even in the water.

Mr. Mazzo says: "It's not a manufacturing problem or a contamination issue," and then misdirects by stating that the infection, " affects people who improperly handle contact lenses, such as disinfecting them with water or wearing them while swimming or showering."

Imagine that; people actually wearing contact lenses in the shower or at the pool! I mean is it reasonable for AMO to have predicted that the consumer would be so irresponsible to have worn their contacts in the shower or at the beach? Bausch & Lomb has also quietly taken the approach of blaming the consumer for poor lens disinfecting and poor lens handling.

So, AMO produced Complete® MoisturePlus and Bausch produced ReNu with MoistureLoc. They presumably profited from their product and it would seem that they both have threatened the eyesight of the U.S. contact lens wearing consumer. Now, when people are harmed by the products these companies produced, "its something in the water".
