In an effort to diffuse their responsibility, Bausch & Lomb has mounted a campaign to place the blame on contact lens wearers for developing eye infections; some of which have led to the need for corneal transplants. A new studypublished in JAMA concludes, however, that it was ReNu with MoistureLoc that caused these devastating eye infections:

"The study, "Multistate Outbreak of Fusarium Keratitis Associated with use of Contact Lens Solution," formally concludes that ReNu with MoistureLoc was responsible for the outbreak of potentially blinding fungal eye infections in the last year. The research was based on 164 confirmed cases of Fusarium keratitis in the U.S. from June 2005 to April 2006. Bausch & Lomb finally issued a worldwide recall of ReNu with MoistureLoc later in May 2006."

Once again, corporate protectionism over patient safety is the approach chosen by Bausch; this after generating millions of dollars in profits from the very patients they placed at serious risk. Thankfully, this recent study sets the record straight and appears to demonstrate that ReNu was a problem and Bausch probably knew it.
